I went down to IDIADA, a test facility about one hours drive from Barcelona to have a look at a new vehicle due on the market next year from Toyota. This vehicle is one of 18 new or heavily face lifted models that the company will introduce by the end of 2009.

Mercedes Benz has launched two cars with similar facelifts at the same time. The A Class receives re-designed headlamps, front bumper, the lower air intake is now much larger and the radiator grille also has a new design. The rear has a modified bumper and new rear light clusters.

Ford has deliberately kept the Kuga model and engine line-up nice and simple - two models and one engine. The Zetec will account for around 60% of sales and the Titanium 40%. Both are fitted with a 2.0 litre TDCi diesel engine that produces 136ps and goes from 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds.

I went over to the BMW Headquarters in Munich and went to the famous ‘four cylinder’ building which literally is four cylinders about twelve storeys high and is where most of the decisions are made. It also houses hundreds of staff who are responsible for all aspects of this international business.

Paul Williams is a well known character in the motor industry and has had some high profile jobs over the past few years - the last one being MD of Kia Motors UK. Paul joined Koelliker a few months ago as they started being the official importer of Ssangyong cars after purchasing the assets of the old company. Koelliker are represented in three other countries and import a variety of vehicles, selling over 100,000 last year.
