We first drove the diesel version of the TT a few months ago in Munich and found it to be extremely quiet and refined. The test car was the first opportunity to drive a right hand drive car in the UK and we were not disappointed with it. It was still as good as the memories of the one we drove in Germany, probably even better.

The TT is powered by the latest technology 2.0 litre common rail diesel engine that produces 170ps and goes from 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds. The engine is coupled to a six speed manual gearbox and has the Audi quattro all wheel drive system fitted as standard. The outstanding feature on this car is the fact that it’s a diesel but does not sound like one, it is just so quiet. The Co2 emission output is a surprisingly low 140g/km, putting it into the £120 per year road fund licence and the engine is already compliant with the proposed Euro 5 emissions legislation.

The TT TDi is such a great car to drive. It offers the driver everything - a stylish Coupe, more than enough power and refinement. With quality in both exterior and interior, it has loads of image and good fuel economy. The test car we had achieved 46mpg according to the on-board computer. However, the one thing the TT cannot offer is enough room in the rear for two adults as the rear seats are tiny and could only just seat two small children in comfort.

The car we had was finished in white with a red leather interior so it looked very special and attracted much attention, despite the new TT being on the market for some time now. Audi have created an iconic car with the TT and now with the additional choice of a diesel engine, it will attract even more customers.
