Take an already well-equipped Mazda6 such as the TS, add features like 17” alloys (over 16”), Tom Tom satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and an MP3 compatible audio system, and you end up with a Mazda6 Business Line.
The Business Line’s navigation screen is integrated into the dashboard and looks very much part of the car, despite it being fitted after the car has left the factory in Japan. The system has a touch screen and the whole thing is easy to use after a few minutes of getting to grips with it. It’s also a very accurate system and incorporates other features such as the position of safety cameras to let the driver know where accident black spots are. It also indicates the actual speed you are travelling – which usually differs to the car’s standard speedometer by around 4% – and it also tells you what the speed limit is on the road you are driving on, which is always a very valuable attribute. Like most systems, it will not pick up temporary speed limits such as ones that are usually seen around motorway road works. The Business Line’s Bluetooth system is also easy to connect and the hands-free mode has a very clear reception during use.
The Business Line has a 2.2 litre 129ps diesel engine which goes from 0-62mph in 10.9 seconds, has a CO2 emissions figure of 133g/km and an official combined fuel consumption figure of 55.4 MPG. During the time we had the car we achieved an average of 46.4 MPG, but the driving was done on many different types of roads and over varying distances, so considering the size of the car we thought this was a good result.
The Mazda6 is still a good looking car; its styling and design is as fresh today as it was when it was first launched. The Business Line will no doubt be a popular choice as a used car for many years to come.
The quality of this car’s interior is good, with some high quality materials being evidently present throughout. The seats provide a comfortable journey for all occupants and the cabin offers plenty of room for five adults. The boot is impressively spacious and versatile; its already ample capacity can be extended further to accommodate lengthy items by folding the rear seats down. It almost transforms into a small van! The boot also has a soft-touch close function, which adds a certain amount of quality to the car – a nice touch.
The new Mazda6 Business Line is a good choice for the company car driver as it does offer good value, and with all that standard equipment on board it will be on many used car buyers shopping lists. The downside however is the fact that this sector is slowly diminishing, and finding customers for D sector hatchback cars – as good or as high quality as they may be – is not an easy task. However, Mazda is offering a good package with the Business Line, so it may allow them to sell a few in this area of the market.
The Mazda6 Business Line is priced at a very reasonable £18,300.
