We keep testing used cars to make sure that they are standing the test of time and ensuring the quality remains as good as when they were new. However, this car can hardly be classed as a used car as it is less than two years old and has covered only 21,000 miles; it looks as if it is brand new and just out of the showroom. The mileage it has covered means that this Q7 has only just been run in and loosened up.
The car was supplied by Volkswagen Financial Services and was an early termination from one of their customers, who, it has to be said, has really looked after the car during the time they owned it. It is immaculate throughout and the only small problem I found with the Q7 is that the driver’s seat material, which was Alcantara, was showing signs of beginning to ‘bag’ a little. Whether this will get worse as time goes on, remains to be seen.
The Q7 is a good all-rounder. It is a seven seater, has air suspension and has Audi’s famous quattro 4WD system. I used the Q7 recently when the snow had landed in large amounts around the country and found it could cope with any depth of snow quite easily. I felt very confident driving it in those conditions and it was much better than I had expected it to be. Once the snow had almost gone, the Q7’s handling and drivability were back to normal. It is a very refined car that is easy to drive and is just as competent on tarmac as it is on snow.
The car is powered by an efficient 3.0 litre TDI diesel engine that produces 240ps. It feels quick and lively, and handles as well as many two seater sports cars. Around town it managed a fuel figure of 24 MPG and on a long motorway journey it averaged at 29.8 MPG.
This 08 plate car is currently worth around £30,000 if it was for sale on a dealer forecourt, so does look like an expensive 4WD car to many buyers, but it does offer a lot of car for the money and has a long list of standard equipment. It doesn’t seem like two minutes ago that we first saw the Q7 and now they are on the used market in a price bracket that is not cheap yet. However, there will be some that will regard it as now affordable, whereas a new one isn’t.
Audi do produce great cars that are built to last. The quality is second to none and the fit and finish is brilliant. This Q7 hopefully will find a nice new home to go to shortly, as it does deserve one.
