CAP Motor Research Ltd, more generally known as CAP, was launched in 1979 as an independent family owned company based in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Set up by two experienced motor traders, they initially produced a printed guide to used car valuations (Black Book) which was joined a few years later by used valuation guides to commercial vehicles (Red Book), bikes (Green Book) and then ‘grey-market’ specialist Japanese imported cars (Grey Book). CAP’s used valuations are now the benchmark within many of the sectors it operates in.
